Pre-K Program

The Pre-k curriculum provides many wonderful learning activities through play in order to help children prepare for kindergarten.  The students engage in several “hands-on, child-centered” activities related to the theme for the week. Generally included are activities that help to develop pre-math skills such as sorting, matching, classification, puzzles, and blocks.  Pre-reading activities include teacher read books, children “reading” books on their own, letter and word games, as well as labeling for word recognition.

Sensory play often includes play-dough, rice play, shaving cream, and water play.  For the development of fine motor skills, students practice cutting with scissors, coloring, lacing, as well as, experimentation with different kinds of writing tools. Included in all of these activities are both group and one-on-one participation, which enable the teacher to monitor progress and assess each child skills and development.

During circle time, the class gathers together to discuss concepts related to the weekly theme.  Circle time generally includes music, counting games, name recognition using both upper and lower case letters, and storytelling in which the students help act out the story. The selected activities have proven to be both fun and challenging for the children.

Activities that expose students to the widest range of educational enrichment from academics to art and music & movement- a whole child approach so that each child has at least one area in which they can excel.

Great emphasis is placed on the development of positive self image in each child and to assure that each child learns and develops at his or her own pace. The pre-k program implements age appropriate activities in the lesson plans so that skills are reinforced throughout all of the different learning experiences.
