About the Director and Staff
As director of Ridgewood Preschool I bring with me a BA in Child Development, twenty-two years of experience, and a passion for working with young children. I have enjoyed working with children ages birth to 18 years in several different capacities, including teaching preschool and operating home daycares. All of our teachers are college educated in child development and are required to attend monthly trainings.
Philosophy
We believe that young children should be allowed to be children. Here they have an opportunity to explore, play, socialize, and learn while having fun without the pressures of traditional schooling.
We understand that parents differ in their children's educational goals. At Ridgewood, the parents of the individual students choose their child's educational path.
The two, three, and four year olds will be presented with daily projects and activities based on a monthly theme, but participation will be completely voluntary.
The pre-K class will be more structured and participation will be required in order to help prepare students for primary school.
Enrichment Programs
In addition to the daily activities presented by the individual classroom teachers, Ridgewood will offer weekly music time, gymnastics, and computer literacy. Free family pajama story time and parenting workshops will also be offered.
The Facility
Because children need both calm, quiet times as well as loud, active times, we have divided our facility into seven different rooms through which each class will rotate during the day. The rooms include a dramatic playroom / music room, a manipulatives / building blocks room, a library / quiet room, a large motor skills / gymnastics room, a train and car room, an art & crafts room, and the welcome center.
